Alvin Rice on Chlorine in Drinking Water – Part 2

I decided to write this in two parts to keep them shorter for your reading pleasure.

Mr. Rice continues regarding chlorine and it’s byproducts.

“In addition, while it may be easy to reduce the level of chlorine from drinking water with a carbon filter, not all carbon filters are able to treat chloramines or many types of DBPs.”

“That is why it is so important for consumers to understand that not all carbon filters perform the same.”

Mr. Rice says that “Multipure is NSF- certified to treat a wider range of chemical contaminants than any of the other over 9000 systems certified by NSF.”

Mr. Rice lists some eye opening facts about chlorinated drinking water and drinking water contamination:

  • “According to the U.S. Council of Environmental Quality, the cancer risk to people who drink chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.

  • The President’s Cancer Panel reported that 1.5 million Americans are diagnosed with cancer each year, and over 562,000 of these cases are terminal. They identified contaminants in tap water as one of the contributing causes, and they recommended that people do  not drink tap water unless it has been filtered through a carbon filter.

  • The “Silent Spring Institute” and Harvard School of Public Health identified the highest priority toxic chemicals to target for breast cancer prevention, many of which were identified in tap water. They recommend that people do not drink tap water unless it is filtered by a CARBON BLOCK FILTER.

  • Many of these contaminants that were identified in tap water were the byproducts of chlorination. There were many other chemical contaminants identified, but I will share those with you in a future message.”

Mr. Rice concluded his remarks by adding that Multipure does not advocate discontinuing the practice of chlorination, “we do advocate that a person remove chlorine from their drinking water before they consume it.  Simply put, it is clear to me that EVERYONE needs an effective water filter to……protect……their……health.”

This is a very important article by Mr. Rice.  He explains how chlorine is important for cleaning water of microbial contaminants that cause disease, but in doing so can react with organic material in tap water to create disinfectant byproducts (DBPs) that are harmful to human health.

The U.S. Council of Environmental Quality, the President’s cancer panel, the “Silent Spring Institute and Harvard School of Public Health all recommend that people do not drink tap water unless it has been filtered through a carbon or carbon block filter.

Considering disinfectant byproducts are just some of the many contaminants  that have potential adverse health effects, and we now know that carbon block filters are recommended, so why not consider an investment in such a filter for your family’s peace of mind.
